Degefa has a big gap at 10k. She crosses in 33:58 -- 14 seconds up on Sharon Cherop and Mare Dibaba, and another 15 seconds up on the chase pack. She's now on 2:23:20 pace.
She's gone 5:23-5:16-5:13 for her last three miles.
This is a big, aggressive move for a marathoner who has never raced a marathon outside of Dubai. Her PR of 2:17:41 is 2+ mins better than everyone else in the field. Genius move or foolhardy?
Even if I was WAY better than everyone else like Degefa. I wouldn't want to run the marathon alone. Why would anyone take off this ealy. It's not like there is a huge CR bonus is there? I still think she'll crush everyone.
For some reason a lot of Dubai runners have done well in Boston even though the courses aren't alike at all.

The guy with no shirt ? It looks like he was chucked out because he was gone at the gun !
Wow Degefa's got a weird style, bouncing around like a rabbit on springs !

Wrong. He started. Idiot.
Wow, these commentators are awful. "She's making a break"--when she's just trying to get some space to grab her bottle from the tables. "Drones are amazing these days"--when the camera shot is from a helicopter. That guy who did the Tokyo Marathon solo was so much better.
Degafa 80 meters over Cherop & Dibbaba, then main pack another 15 seconds back.

Did any commentator have the guts to even mention how the masses started 2 minutes behind this year? Cowardly. I didn't hear it.
I read on yesterdays Boston Herald that they were going to push mass start because of the impending weather.

+1 But there's no way she's going to be bouncing like that when she hits the hills! I'll be amazed if she wins.
What's a "Push Rim" ffs
sounds like a sexual reference
Is "wheelchair" not literal enough? Really?
OK. The international feed had a cool stat. Here it is.

$25,000 for course record of 2:19:59.
$50K for World Record too, but unlikely.

As Shakira would say. WADA WADA eh eh. WADA WADA eh eh. It's time for Africa.
Words cannot express how much I appreciate this post.
Did he just call the wheel chair race the push rim race?!
anybody have a link to the international feed? the NBC coverage is worse than bad. It's one minute of running, two minutes of wheelchairs, three minutes of commercials, repeat.
