Jonathan Gault has an interesting feature on Ritz's new training plan for Boston this year. What struck me the most was that he's still motivated by the dream of the win. I figured by now he might be a bit jaded and just trying to make an Olympic team, support the family.
"I thought I was fit enough to win last year," Ritzenhein says. "It won't be a failure if I don’t win, but I’m going to go in with that (the win) in mind."
Now read the full article as Ritz isn't foolishly thinking "win or bust".
He seems to know the odds of a win are small (but I'd certainly say higher than Yuki's last year) as later he says, "I don’t what success on the day of is, but I’m just excited for the gun going off.”
