As an amateur runner I do reps of deep squatting with weight equal to my body weight. 2 sets of 4 reps - is that respectable?

2 x 4 body weight squats, not something to come on here to boast about.

He might be a 350 pounder.

As a runner yes that’s fine. As a newbie yes. Weight doesn’t matter, progress does. If that’s all you can do that’s all you can do. As long as you’re making progress whether it’s 5lb a week or 5lb a month, progress is progress.
When I first started lifting 11 years ago I could barely bench 135 a few times or squat 135 a few times and that was under my bw.

He meant squats with additional weight equal to his body weight... still not all that impressive.
But your lack of ability to understand simple concepts and still be a total douche? That's impressive.

Oh wow, what a friendly place this is.
If your form is good , you go slowly and pause on the bottom, 1 x BW deep squats are an indicator of adequate strength for a runner. (You might try to progress to sets of 6 or 8 reps if the weight starts feeling light).
My goal for elite sprinters and jumpers is 2xBW , 1 set of 2-3 reps, but we take our time getting there.
It’s beneficial for sure.
It's not respectable, but it's a good start. If you can do the same weight & reps with a front squat, then I would say that's respectable (still nothing to write home about) for a runner.

In a running/basic strength for life/health context yes it's respectable. Would be on the weak side for power athletes.
In a strength context, not at all. I'd say that would be on par with something like 30:00 5k. 2x BW to depth would be something like a 20:00 5k. That's a common weight to see handled, but still something only about 10% of guys in the gym can manage. 3x BW is approaching an elite lift by strength standards.
What if I weigh 60kg and do 40 deep proper squats in one go using 35kgs on my back?
In strength training circles, a respectable barbell squat begins somewhere around 315lbs for 5 reps. Obviously it'll be easier the heavier you are but that's generally considered a standard to shoot for before you're considered an established lifter.
That's with a belt too. Raw, even better.
