I can't believe there are so many idiots in this country. "I hate the guvment slamming healthcare insurance down my throat. All those other sick people should go bankrupt while I do just fine. I'd rather die than have to pay for insurance!"
Congratulations - you may get that wish since you're uninsured when you get sick.
Let's talk about idiots.
I dont drink.
I don't smoke.
I don't use illicit drugs.
I don't overeat myself into obesity.
I don't have rampant unprotected sex with multiple partners.
Why should I pay for the healthcare of those who suffer the effects of those who voluntarily engage in those behaviors?
I've never smoked a cigarette but somehow I have to pay for the medical bills of a decades long smoker who is suffering from lung cancer, CHF and or COPD.
yep. I'm the idiot.
Ha, by that logic, why am I paying for this country's roads and highways? I don't drive a car! (Live in NYC)
Why am I paying for NYC's subway system? I usually walk to work, but can just use uber to get around if I need it.
Why am I paying for our military? I was opposed to the war in Iraq and many of our other misadventures abroad.
Why am I paying for public education? I was sent to expensive and elite private schools!
Why am I paying for any government at all? I don't need a government! I'm an island of invincibility and self-reliance!
Granted, the government protects our nuclear arsenal, has vastly improved our ability to predict weather, basically invented the internet, helped develop cancer immunotherapies, poured billions of dollars into the buildout of our oil and gas and coal industries over the decades (and now is helping build out solar, wind) -- but screw that!
Nothing can ever befall me, or if it does, I'll just accept it and die early--because I believe in something (or, rather, in nothing)
