No we haven't. If you need it spelled out for you: this assertion relies on an unsupported situation where the same people buying the books then complaining about taking the song off the air.
Swing and a miss.
I think that all reference to sex in society should be outlawed. That means no discussing gender identity, sexual assault, homophobia, no sex in movies. All citizens required to wear gender concealing clothing so no one is exposed to sexual desires.

Are you saying that playing the song "Baby it's Cold Outside" on the radio is like reading "50 Shades" on the radio? Which radio stations were reading "50 Shades" as on air content? Porn is more popular than ever, do you expect to see it on NBC sometime soon though?
Clearly not.

I am surprised you didn’t know that.
Again, you’re talking about a decision that was made by three or four entities across the entire country. I don’t know anyone who is getting their feathers in a ruffle over the song. Do you?

2011- Fifty Shades of Gray sells 100,000,000+ copies.
2018- “Baby it’s Cold Outside” is taken off the radio and Little Mermaid’s “Kiss the Girl” is banned from a collegiate a capella performance.
How spoiled are we that we have time to be concerned with this crap? I don’t think I like post-industrialism.
theJeff, the irony is all too real. It's 2018 brother, nothing makes sense.
Enjoy your weekend long run, where 1% of the world always makes sense
Your comparison is apples to oranges. I don't give a sh*t about either, but to be exposed to "50 Shades" you have to read the book and/or watch the movie, but people are forced to listen to "Baby it's Could Outside" at Starbucks and other places where customers are abused with Christmas music.

The people most concerned about it are the angry conservatives.
Little isolated incidents like these happen all the time.

The answer to the OP's question has to do with "empowerment," a vague and shape-shifting concept that seems to mean whatever the person invoking it wants it to mean. Apparently the woman in "Fifty Shades of Grey," who appeared to be demeaned and victimized, was actually being liberated and empowered. Go figure. Whereas in that song, the guy who was coyly suggesting that the woman who had already warmed to him might want to consider going to bed was being "assaulted." Go figure.
When to we get to songs like Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" and the Rolling Stones' "Stray Cat Blues," which sexualized girls age 14 and 15, respectively?
Perhaps, but you can't compare a song written 70 years ago and a book written 7 years ago through the same modern lens.
NPR's article had a feminist response that argued that in the song, the woman was also expressing a form of liberation and empowerment appropriate for the time. Of course, this empowerment would look a lot different through a 21st century lens, and may even look like the opposite.
It's simple: consent vs. coercion
In "50 Shades", the female protagonist willingly consents to a relationship she knows to be based on power and the man's fetishes.
"Baby.." is about a man using guilt/shame to pressure a woman into a potentially sexual situation while plying her with intoxicants.

It took 2 pages, but we finally found a true believer to illustrate theJeff’s point.

At least it stimulated your ganglia into firing in broader way. You should be appreciative of other's attempts to force you to into becoming more introspective and contemplative about the world and your assumptions.

It did not take two pages. If you read the first page, people illustrated this point there, too.
None of this has anything to do with 50 Shades of Gray. Let's get that off the table.
If you actually listen to the lyrics of "Baby it's Cold," you can hear that it's a pretty creepy song about a date-rape strategy. If a woman acted as clingy and demanding as the man in this song, people on this board would rip her for being crazy. She clearly says "no" and he plies her with booze to get her to stay. He keeps grabbing her arm to get her to stay. "Hey, what's in this drink?" she has to ask... A lot of men grow up being taught to be assertive and not take no for an answer. If you are upset about this song, it might be a good time to expand your world by doing some reading about consent and relationships.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MFJ7ie_yGUUm, ever hear of that book by Nabokov?
Yeah, this is not hard—if one is actually familiar with those books and the song. In the books there is actually a whole bit where the female lead signs a contract to give consent and has a “safe word” to indicate whatever it is going on should stop when she says it. As noted above, the song is clearly about coercion. TheJeff, it makes me concerned for the future that you are raising sons as you apparently do not understand consent and seem as if you will be unable to teach them about this concept.

Wait is TheJeff really D. Rose IRL!?!?
It’s very clear from thejeff’s posting history that he is a repressed homosexual but maybe he’s also a closeted black man?
