cheers. -
If Charlie Marquardt doesn't finish 2nd.... did the race even happen?
Congrats to Charlie, He's been close to breaking four for almost three years now. Smashed it. 3:55! -
Is anyone else digging the mission of Sir Walter Running? A non-profit that actually does what the mission statement says, without filling the pockets of the officers? Imagine the possibilities if these guys were to take over USATF?
Well done. This is the sport we signed up for. -
I'm with you on this.
before the Sir Walter Miler team got going there had not been a sub-4 in North Carolina since 1983 (Marcus O'Sullivan), and there had not been a sub-4 in Raleigh, NC since 1974 (Steve Wheeler). in the five years this event has been going they have seen 39 sub-4 miles.
you have to look real hard to see any down side to this, but maybe the guys who organised the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem can give you some insight on that because their event seems to have ceased running since Sir Walter Miler grabbed all the spoils. although, to be fair, that is, or was, it hasn't run since 2016, an indoor event in January so they are not in direct competition with each other.
Cheers. -

Camel City Elite is alive and well and has been going on since 2013. In 2018, we awarded approximately $75k in prize money and bonuses. We will have similar prize money or more in 2019 and also have a non-profit that gives all of the money to either professional prize money or to allow other events use of the JDL facility for free.
We have already confirmed Centrowitz, Cheserek and Chelimo to all compete in the mile. We will begin filling out the rest of the fields in the fall. Here is the announcement we released earlier this summer.

What are you talking about? Cheserek ran a 3:53.85 indoors in February. The Camel City Elite meet is as strong as ever, and they have Chelimo, Centrowitz, and Ches lined up for 2019.

Grandpa Ches? Adding a Masters Division was a smart move. -
Strong return for Charlie Marquardt following that near miss at Adrian Martinez. He's a D3 guy with a full time job who loves the sport and just wants to run fast. Somebody get him a sponsor.

What is the record for the fastest time under 4:00 for someone's first sub-4:00? I recall people talking about this when Chelimo went to JDL earlier this year I believe since he had never officially broken 4:00.
Charlie's first sub 4:00 be a 3:55 has to be pretty darn close to whatever the record is. Good on him. -

Lomong manhandles the field...
That's disappointing. He has by far the best resume in that field. He's got the best PBs, and was 1500 national champion in 2009 & 2010. But he's 33 years old. That they can't beat an old guy who has moved way up in distance does not bode well for the future. Let's hope some of the youngsters get better soon.
I hate to say it, but the generation gap in American men's mid-d has got me thinking wistfully of the days of JMac, Will Leer, DT and even AJ. Those guys never got to the level of Manzano, Wheating or Lomong, but at least they looked like they might. It's hard to say the same about Gregorek or Casey. -
Cottonshirt,
You're an idiot, and know very little about the current state of a lot of what is going on in the sport outside of Raleigh.
Cheers. -
We seem in a lull of strong milers right now in the US outside of Centro.
When Lagat was rolling and Lomong, Manzano and some others were young and coming up, it seemed like we had turned a corner. I don't know if it is talent, coaching or what but the young crew now does not look as promising. Lomong never achieved what I thought he would but the future sure seemed bright in 2008. Manzano got the silver medal but rarely did well outside of US competition.
The young guys now do not seem like they are finishing college ready to make global finals. I hope that changes. -

I swear, both Brojos and all the mods must have some kind of learning disability. If your whole thing is text read on the internet, learn how to spell and at least copy edit for ten seconds before you post something. This makes you look really dumb.
