problem here has nothing to do with socialism or capitalism - Chavez just used a socialist revolution to install himself as Dictator, and Maduro just carried on the tradition. These guys (and many of the African dictators) make corruption in the US look like amateurs. They steadily line their pockets, plus those of their 10,000 or so buddies in military, police, government, and oil industry with all the proceeds of the country. No money goes back into maintenance of the oil machinery or the country's infrastructure. This process eventually just breaks the country down as nothing works any more - electric grid broken, cant pump out anymore oil, roads decrepit.
At last minute, Maduro will jet out to exile somewhere, and the people will rebuild the infrastructure with an international bailout, and then 25 years later will elect another dictator.
As someone above pointed out, South Africa is next on this list.
