Alright Letsrun, help me run a 6 minute mile

I'm intrigued..

Not really buying this, but love the LR community. Someone will figure this out.

If in 2008 a collegiate ran a 3:59 mile and then a spring/summer marathon in 2:24, someone here will figure out who it is.

Based on his hints, I don't think this was anyone from 2008 nationals. He said he ran the 2:24 BEFORE the 3:59 mile. No top NCAA miler would run a marathon a few months before the indoor season. He also said that right after breaking 4, he stopped running since he had accomplished his goal. So he was likely post collegiate when he broke 4, since a top NCAA miler wouldn't simply quit after breaking 4 for the first time. I think this would be someone who graduated in 2007 and was close to 4:00. Then ran a fall marathon in 2:24, ran the 3:59 unattached in winter of 2008, then called it quits.

You're getting closer, but you're making some incorrect assumptions.

I scanned through the all time mile list to find someone who is currently age 32 and ran 3:59 indoors more than 10 years ago. There are two people who fit that critria.

Normal track:

Oversized track:

250 3:59.47 Austin Abbott USA 08.12.85 4 Seattle 11.02.2006

David Proctor still has recent race results, so it can't be him. Austin Abbott ran a 3:58 in 2009 so it can't be him either.

That's messed up. Why would someone go through so much trouble and lie about all this?

I can't find any indoor 3:58.96 miles from 2006 to 2009. Do all meets report to the all-time lists? Could someone do this at a small D3 meet and have it not be recorded?

I'm tempted to believe the guy because of the detail in the 2014 post and because his question seemed sincere, but he also seems to have disappeared which says troll.

48 men went sub 4 between 2005-2008.

27 of them indoors.

11 of them did it only once.

None of them had a 2:24 marathon in 2005,2006,2007

It seems unlikely that anybody who was truly a 3:59 & 2:24 guy would need the advise of shmoes on the internet to get back to 6:59.
