Dude, whatever. I'm aware of how "racing sports" operate. And T&F does actually operate consistent with what I'm saying, such as when "extra" athletes are advanced through to the next heat for a variety of circumstances at the international level. It's nonsensical to DQ someone who could have stopped, tied his shoe, checked his instagram feed, ordered a pizza, and still taken 2nd (a qualifying position) by a week and change. And not only that....a high school kid. DQ is needlessly cruel here.
Deterrence...pah! Conservative-minded rubbish.
Extra athletes are only advanced when they are the victim, not the one committing the foul. The margin of victory shouldn’t matter when applying the rules.
This isn't true. There was in impeding incident where the impeding runner was still advanced in the last Olympics...can't remember who and can't look it up now, but it happened/happens.
The spirit of the rule should also apply. Cutting is a foul because it impedes another runner's fair shot at winning. So, OK...the other runner wins. Has nothing to do with 3 and 4. Your unbending adherence to "rules" I don't understand.
