Nice post. And this reality reminds me of what happens on this board, too. Someone asked fairly recently what decent times for a 50-year-old runner might be (I think it was), and it immediately turned into a fastest-ever talk for all older age groups. It's best-ever around here, or you might as well not exist. You might as well be a hobby-jogger. (Disclaimer: I 'ran' with my 10-year-old dog the other day, I'm a hobbyjogger.)
Seems a little shortsighted to call this "killing" part of the sport. Are runners not allowed to be competitive or want to know how their time ranks in the rest of the state? Is it really flosport's fault that track and field coverage now extends to the internet? I get that you are grumpy about kids caring about their milesplit profile, but that's the way the world works now. In other news: kids also care about their facebook, twitter and instagram profiles. SHOCKING!!
read this thread a few days ago, finally got around to watching the segment...WTF? Seriously blotrack, I want to like you guys down there in austin but what about that clip makes you think they *didn't* watch the race? Seriously, at the very least these guys had to have read an article about it and likely watched a highlight clip, if not much of the whole damn race.
The tweet was just stupid and juvenile, as many have mentioned, a perfect mimicry of the board behavior here. If you EVER want anyone to take you seriously, act like adults and carry yourselves with class. Sheesh.
Milesplit did the rankings years ago...I don't think FloSports changed that much.
nobody on my team in HS ever mentioned milesplit/letsrun/etc. maybe your situation is different
I stopped following Flotrack when they started showing 5 year olds competing in National 400m finals! WTF just imagine drop kick dad having his son out on the track running 250's to increase his lactate tolerance to win next year's event!
