I'm going into track season after XC and I don't know how to go about the base phase. 19:40 5K and 30mpw. Any feedback is welcome

I asked the same thing just a bit ago and I'm close to you fitness wise. PR is 18:44 but I've been running like 20:30 for some reason. I asked specifically for the 1600m training.
I was told to up mileage some but continue quality work since track is more speed oriented. I'm planning on doing 3 workouts a week- long run, speed workout (hill sprints, 200s, 150s, flying 30s), and a longer threshold-ish type workout (tempo, 800s, 1ks, and occasionally some longer slower 200/400s).
Not sure how good this is but it's what I was told and it seems pretty similar to my summer base training but with a lot more speed.

Start by running easy miles, as many as you feel like running until after the new year.
Sounds good peyto. I'm training for the 3200 so I'm thinking some mile repeats and fartleks along with threshold runs and long intervals early in the base phase. Thanks for the input!
Stop the bs and start running. Don't worry about what to run until you are at least at 60 mpw. Given your low current mileage that progression might take the while winter, but you will see the dividends next year.
Obviously its Winter of Malmo!
