Seriously, anyone who thinks Rupp won't blow away the field in Chicago needs to get their HEAD CHECKED! Let's look at the contenders:
Dennis Kimetto: Woah dude, nice PR....uh, yeah from THREE YEARS AGO! What's he done since then? Goes home DEVESTATED in London 2015 and can't even make it to the start line since then. Even if by some miracle he makes it halfway through with the leaders, he'll quickly be dropped due to a "knee injury" and blow up, finishing 5 minutes behind or just DNF'ing.
Stanley Biwott: The guy has run some FAST times, but what happened last year when he tried to hang with Rupp at the Olympics? Oh, my tummy hurts, I just can't go on.... And what's he done since then? LOLOLOL besides doesn't he have connections with Jemima Sumgong? Dude was probably doped TO THE GILLS when he ran that 2:03 anyway, then had to back off the sauce once she was busted.
Feyisa Lilesa: Sure, he beat Rupp at the Olympics last year, but then he BOMBS at London with a TWO FOURTEEN! You guys think Rupp's 2:09 at Boston in 75 degrees was slow? Well what do you call a 2:14 in pancake flat London in 55 degrees? Besides, even if he rebounds and is in contention, he'll probably blow it at the end by walking across the line making an X with his arms.
Abel Kirui: I'd say this is Rupp's most formidable opponent, but come on, Kirui ain't getting any younger. Dude was basically doing ZERO between Olympics 2012 and Chicago 2016. Besides, even if it comes down to a sprint finish like last year, my money's on the 26:44 10K guy.
Sissay Lemma? Ezekiel Chebii? LOLOL who the f**k are these guys? Just some random 2:05/2:06 guys that probably can't even run sub 2:10 without pacers.
Bernard Kipyego: He's had some good races in the past, but looks like he's done ZERO in the last two years. He'll be a total NON-FACTOR.
What's that? There's a 2:08 Japanese guy in the field? Oh sh*t I'm sure Rupp is shaking in his boots! LOLOLOL why is when these 2:08 Japanese guys land on US soil they suddenly lose their ability to run even 2:11?
I'm sure one or two of these guys will be able to stick with Rupp until the final miles. That is until Rupp DROPS THE HAMMER and leaves these badass sub 2:05 guys in the dust, then parades towards the finish line yelling GOBBLE GOBBLE MF'ERS!!!!
What will be the finishing time? LOLOL who gives a sh*t?!?! I'm sure you Rupp haters will cry foul when he wins in "only" a 2:09 or whatever and how there are so many faster runners out there. Uh, ok, well then why can't these 2:05/2:04/2:03/2:02 guys in the field beat him? Cause Rupp don't give a f*ck about sitting behind pacers for 30K just to put a pretty PR on his resume. Dude is out there to WIN!!!
Who else is ready to watch Rupp DOMINATE in Chicago this Sunday?!?!?

i think Rupp will PR by 1.5-2 minutes. i don't think there will be any domination, i don't think he will win, but i do think he'll be top 5. overall placing will depend on how the runners you described finish. my reaction to what you wrote is:
Dennis Kimetto: 100% agreed. will never run a good time again.
Biwott: Scary, has high potential to win.
Lelisa: agreed, not a threat. i think he lost focus with all the media attention after the olympics. i don't think he'll contend.
Kirui: Scary, has high potential to win
no opinion on the others.
it'll be interesting to see how the pacing of this race goes. obviously, if it were like berlin, Rupp would go home devastated. he'll excel in a more tactical race with a fast finish... which i think the race could very likely end up as. -

I am afraid you will be disappointed big time. Most likely scenario Rupp will drop out. If he runs the whole thing will end up 7 with 212 -
I'm running Chicago from the B corral. I'm planning to pace myself...Rupp will come back to me by mile 24.
-
I think you are arguing against a position that doesn't exist in anyone's mind but your own.
I don't think there's a distance race in the world in which any East African runners are entered where anyone would expect the person of European decent to " dominate".
Rupp ran well at the Olympics, I hope he has a strong showing at Chicago. I would predict that he's in the top 5 if things go well. -
How would one go about watching this if we're not in Chicago? Will it be nationally televised/streamed?

Obviously the OP is way too optimistic, but what has Rupp done lately to suggest he will DNF or run 2:12? -
Salazar moved all his drug cheats to road racing .they will alldo well from now on

"Most likely" lmao -
Another 2:10 by Rupp will not win the slow race that Chicago has become. Rupp follows, and clips the heal of the runner ahead to "draft", like he did at Boston. He is a leader of any race.

9/10. Bravo, got some serious replies. Good imitation of xfit guy. You have a future! Keep trolling. -
Rupp will get dropped by the leaders in the second half. Lilesa has had enough time now to transition to his new living conditions. He was suddenly in a new country without his family. Anyone would struggle in that scenario. It's crazy that some people here think he's a non factor he's only 27 and is top ten on the all time marathon list and he ran 2:06 just last year. Rupp will likely never break 2:06. I predict 2:08 for Rupp
-
What about tadese? I think he probably learned a lot from breaking2. Im curious if he can put together a decent marathon
-
I agree, solid troll. I liked the inclusion of the classic letsrun phrases. Devastated, doped to the gills, and of course gobble gobble.
-
You've forgotten the wildcard, Tadese. No one knows what he can run, probably not even himself. Most likely scenario for a Tadese win is he finds himself with a small group after around 30k and looks around with surprise before putting everyone away with a vintage acceleration, the kind that only prime Bekele can handle.
Of course I don't know but I'm rooting for Tadese if Rupp can't hang.
On Rupp's chances, I think he will really silence some doubters. I'm not talking about a fast time, I mean he will win. He has only run TWO major level marathons. He needed for figure out the distance. Rupp is a very fierce, but also cerebral and methodical competitor.
East Africans beware, Rupp is dialed in and hungry. Expect great things. -
Rupp's training couldn't have been great. He's highly sensitive to air quality and must have been indoors most of the summer because of wildfire smoke. Treadmill doesn't translate 100%.
-
If the dew point is around 70, expect Rupp to run 2:09. Winner will run 2:08

I believe in the past three ChiMarathon has linked the local tv webstream through LRC for everyone to watch. Am I wrong? -
Maybe in top 3, but not #1 and winning time will be around 2:08.

To be fair, Stanley Biwott is actually coming back from a career threatening foot injury. You better hope, for your sake, that he's nowhere near his best because of he is, the rest shouldn't bother showing up.
