For the last 3 months, I've been training for a 10 miler on about 60-65 miles per week which is my highest ever. A typical week consisted of easy miles mixed in with 1 interval workout (usually 4*1 mile, or 6*1000), a 4 mile tempo run, and a medium paced long run. Now that my 10 miler is over with, I wanted to start increasing the miles and get up to a consistent 80, so that I can run faster 10Ks next fall. But there's also a 5K that I want to run this summer, and I want to be faster than ever for it. Is it realistic to be able to increase the miles by 20 per week, do a lot of 5K specific workouts and actually do well in the 5K? Or should I just stick with one goal at a time, like train for the 5K first on lower mileage and bump the mileage up after that race?
