It depends on what kind of 800m runner you are. But the answer is most likely yes. Where you'll benefit is in improved ability to run longer harder track workouts, which in turn should help you to kick ass and take names in races.
In high school my best events were the 800 & 400. Quite embarrassing I never ran a fast 1600 due to the lack of endurance work. I trained with the 400/800 guys & they had speed to drop down to 200. One of them was even on the 4x1. I ran 2:05 & I wanna break 2. I've done solid fartleks which i'm fairly new to still & sets of ranging reps with short recovery, Ks at 4:40/50 pace, mile reps ranging from 5:15-30. Haven't done actual speed yet and I've managed to run 2:12, 1:30, 55 (all comer meets) then two 25 200m when breaking in spikes.
