more good news out of Italy - that nation's 03/29 numbers just came out. They issue only one number per day so this is it for them.
Biggest, by far, daily drop in daily deaths in that country: -15%. After a -3% day on 3/28.
And new cases put in a 10th consecutive day in a band. That is probably what scientists are hoping to see.
Italy's 3 day average growth in daily deaths is at just 4%. Throughout the pandemic there it has averaged 14%. So growth has slowed dramatically.
A few more days of these kinds of numbers out of Italy and we can start to see a light at the end of tunnel. Esp when all these new testing regimes come into the field, and possibly medicines are used effectively.
This is how this kind of daily number analysis can be useful. We saw the trend worsen, we saw it flatten and possibly now we are starting to see numbers decline in Italy. Italy is still 25% of global daily deaths so they are a big mountain to knock down.
Spain is a few days behind Italy - can't quite make out much good news there, other than a 3 day band of new cases. The hope is that the 3 day band will extend to 10 days, like Italy did.
The 3 day average in daily deaths in Spain is 9%, compared to Italy's 4%. But even that 9% is much lower than the average since the start: 32%. So that shows slowing growth also.
