Mid-distance meaning 800m-3000m. Opinions?
Obviously McDonnell, Warhurst, and formerly Lannana are up there but who are the lesser known guys?

Pigg at FLA, Wilmes at MO, the Texas coach seems to do all right
Interesting. Why Pigg? I heard he had troubles with Moise Joseph. Who else on the UF team has made substantial improvements? I've heard that Coach Holloway is a phenominal mid-distance coach. Anyone with insight on that?
I know down the road at FSU Braman has been doing some good things (Lancashire is the only name I can think of right off the bat). He brings in imports but he does seem to develop them where a lot of programs stagnate their recruits.
Mizzou is also a given. Lots of good results from there with Nev and Mayes.
I don't know enough about the texas coach. Just that he brought in a monster class last year headed by Manzano and Stanley.
Kentucky, Indiana, Kent State, Villanova, etc
Razco, Kansa coach, and Ohio State coach - top 3 at olympic Trials.
Charlie Powell at Penn. Sam Burley and Courney Jaworski to name a couple recently.
matt centrowitz at american university. American went from nonexistent to 21st in ncaa xc in the last 5 years. Seems to do very well developing milers and 3k runners especially...
JJ Clark, hands down,,
next question
mark wetmore. wait what was the question again?
larry greer of golden west junior college in huntington beach california.
Notre Dame's coach is very underrated.
Charlie Powell is one of the top 5 800 gurus out there

Pigg was the Mizzou coach (and in fact was Wilmes's coach there) with a string of middle distance success before Wilmes took over. Derrick Peterson was his most notable athlete, and you could put in a vote for Ashley Wysong as the top under him on the women's side. #1 4x800's for men and #2 for women the same year.
For Texas I'm just going by memory that he would get guys to do well. For the guy who listed Colorado, wetmore is a very competent distance coach who I don't think is the best for the middle distances. Their best performances in this area tend to come from distance stars dropping down.
When evaluating middle distance you must look at the distnce medley relay. Look at the teams that have been at the NCAA meet the most. Georgetown on the womens side have qualified 9 years in a row!!!

Just to promote my alma mater a little more, I think Missouri were the only school with both a men's and women's DMR at indoor this year besides Michigan. The Missouri women's DMR won it a couple years ago, 2001 I think, and with all girls from Missouri no less.
Is Seton Hall good for mid-distance any more? I remember about 5 years ago they had some good 800 guys. East Coast, though, no thanks. Sorry GTown, I like it out here!
Good stuff Big12ers. Care to elaborate on Pigg's philosophy when you were at Mizzou? More mileage or intensity based? It's hard to get a feel from the logs (Mayes and Hampton? I believe) on trackshark because they are fairly vague.
tennessee middle disance capital of the northeast by far. With the amount of guys that trainhere post collegiate its suprising more dont come.
did you really just put TN and NE in the same sentence? i think you may want to refer to a map before you make your next post... perhaps you meant SE
Mike Smith K-State
No way kentucky should be on this list. They suck, they do nothing but speed speed and more speed. The athletes have plenty of talent but the coaching staff sucks.
