I've just spotted that the film "Prefontaine" is on network TV at 11.40pm on Saturday night (Britain). Is it worth staying up for as I have to leave for the airport at 5am Sunday morning - or is it just a shitty waste of time?

VCR?
Without Limits is better...any chance they are playing that one? Could you rent them?
I liked both Pre movies, but, I liked Prefontaine more, becuase I thought it focused more on his running, but, they were both great movies- you can always sleep on the plane- or buy/ rent it when you get home.
If you prefer freakin' Disney's take on Prefontaine...their "US v. world" view of the `72 Olympics, the 5,000m final, etc., I think you missed the boat. At least Kenny Moore (screenplay) and Frank Shorter (acting), not to mention the BBC TV film of the 5,000m final make "Without Limits" much more credible.
Disney sucks. It's why they can't do T&F on ESPN...too short an attention span for anything longer than 400m.
Watching Prefontaine was very painful for me because it was done so poorly and did not seem like what I had pictured Prefontaine to be like through reading about him and watching "Fire on the track". "Without Limits" was done much better, but still was not perfect by any means. I watched Prefontaine a second time to give it a chance and it was even worse the second time, so I haven't watched it since.
I would have my girlfriend over and make sure she is ready to go so if the movie gets boring you can at least get some trim.
you are a loser for the following reasons:
a. cause you actually want to watch some gay movie about pre
b. cause you can't suck it up and stay up till 11:40pm on a sat night
c. cause you don't know how to use a vcr
I agree - Prefontaine is really painful to watch...mainly because the acting and dialogue is so bad it's embarrassing. Without Limits is much better in this respect.
"Top Drama" - London Times newspaper.
I was about to suggest buying the dvd, since it's normally only $5.99 at best buy. But I just checked their website and it's up to $16.99! I wonder what caused this spike?
Why don't you just buy the movies, they're like 10 bucks man. How poor are you?
Reasons not to watch "Prefontaine":
1) Faux documentary style in some portions (interviews)
2) Horrendous make-up applied to make young actors appear to be the current age of their characters
3) Al Bundy as Dellinger
4) Breckin Meyer as Pat Tyson
One of the poorer movies, running or otherwise, that I've ever seen.
i would have to say that "prefontaine" is a better film, although it doesn't stay true to prefontaines real story, its better than "without limits" which makes prefontaine look like a pervert trying to screw all the college chick (he had one girlfriend through college), he doesn't seem like the prefontaine that fire on the track depicts. If you really want the real prefontaine story, buy the book Pre : The Story of America's Greatest Running Legend, Steve Prefontaine
by Tom Jordan I read it and if you want the full in depth story you should too.

Watching Without Limits is like watching Patch Addams while running on the treadmill....
"Prefontaine" is definitely better. "Without Limits" has many errors to the actually story of Pre. It's out of order in some of the details.
Though i'll admit "Prefontiane" is a little cheesy...it's better.
"Prefontaine" captured running in the 70's very well. The struggle that runners went through is memorable.
Both movies were off the mark. Dellinger worked much more with Pre than the movies suggest (Hollywoods spin as Bowerman is a bigger legend).
I was dissappointed in both despite having a few seconds in Without Limits. I guess we all expetcted more as runners and fans, and they obviously are marketing towards fat lazy Americans.
After meeting both Pre's (Jared Leto and Billy Crudup) I'd have to say Crudup captured the image from the stories I've heard and read about. And he was a much cooler guy.
I'd say watch it if you haven't seen it, otherwise skip it and try to get ahold of an old documentary on Eamonn Coughlan, much more inspiring.
