We are talking in the next 4-5 years ....E. Thompson went from 11:15 to 10:80 in 2 years!
She was a HS sophomore running 12:15...You don't think in the next 5 years or so she would have gotten close to running sub 11?
I coached a girl to 12.30 in 8th grade in club track(she ran 12.8 with previous coach in 7th grade). She just graduated high school this year with a 12.18 pr (I don't coach at her high school).
I had another girl who ran 12.5 as a frosh, graduated this year as well with a 12.3 pr (I do coach at her high school).
Point is that some girls mature early. You can't make predictions. Recognize talent and train it accordingly, but there are no guarantees, especially with sprinters, and especially with female sprinters.
For what it is worth, Tyson Gay was a very solid hs sprinter, but not a phenom. He had a fairly steady progression through college and a few years post collegiate.
Her death is a loss, regardless of whether we can know her sprinting potential.
