I give Jäger a ton of credit for today's 5000m. Jäger was training for the steeplechase and he got a silver medal. Then he has the balls to test his limits at 5000m. So many of you criticize elite athletes for coasting in the pack. Jäger learned something today and made the race more exciting in the process. Kudos.
KUDOS to Evan Jager

Yeah Galen Rupp never has done this.

Agreed to op. Great to see him go with the pacemakers, and go after it. He certainly looked cooked with 1k to go.

Agreed. I have even more respect for Jager now. Only wish he had showed those tactical guys a rude lesson in the process :-) -

Yeah, he's no Dave Moorcroft or Henry Rono for that matter. -
Jager beat a shit ton of sub 12:52 PB guys why would be be devastated?
-
Doesn't this pretty much mean no steeplechase for the remainder of the season? Sigh... I was looking forward to another attempt at 8:00. But then, finishing the season with a 5k after a silver in your main event isn't a bad idea. Maybe he's content with his 8:00 AR.

He's running the Bussels Steeple next week, with the intent to break 8. -

Why would this mean no steeplechase next week? -
I honestly think most of the other guys had no idea who he was. I mean - some white dude taking it out hard? Must be a pacer.
He almost pulled a Coburn (Re: Shanghai race).
If Hassan Mead hadn't pushed the pace in the middle - they might have never caught him. Thanks a lot Mead........ -
Such a strange race. I'm actually surprised that he couldn't hold them off with a 50-meter lead on the last lap. That first 600 was just a little too hot I guess.
It was fun to watch, but I still don't know what to make of it. I need to see it again. -

Yeah, why would you think that? -

Because they aren't currently in sub 12:52 shape and they weren't really competing against him. -

He shoulda won. He's that caliber. Americans can't be happy with "good effort" anymore. He should have run 56-57 last 400 and won. Easier said than done but it's not like he was running 12:50 pace. Why no 56? -
If the rabbits were a little more realistic early- Jager could've had a huge day. :29 & 1:31 early splits?? Just a :30 & 1:32 could've made all the difference. At that flying start, 1 sec is huge.

The guy just won a silver medal, Ezekiel Kemboi says after the race he thinks Jager will win Gold someday, and you think most of the guys in the race didn't know who he was? -
Face it, nobody takes steeplechasers seriously. Shaheen/Cherono was about the only one. If Chelimo or Mead or Lagat had done the same thing, you guys would be lamenting their tactical blunder but since it's the lily white Jager, it's kudos all around.

He can't! Jäger has the slowest leg turnover rate of anybody. I can't fathom how he bounced his way to a 3:32. When Gebrhiwet ran by him, he wasn't too tired to make more effort, he just couldn't use that effort to sprint, only to maybe bounce a little higher. -
Oh and Gebhriwet WINS the diamond league trophy, Mo Farah comes up short once again.
-
Mo, the reigning double Olympic and World champion at 5000 and 10000 is missing nothing by not racing scrubs in the watered-down Diamond League in front of 20 people in the stands. Any series where Ben True can win a race is not worth running.
You are the type of idiot who continues to hype up the next Bekele when it's clear that he's not coming along. So you hate Farah and love anonymous tall Kenyans and have the brain capacity of a salted slug - hence your moronic 'theories' about this or that.
