Jakub Holuša and Pavel Maslák who did quite well recently at the indoor championship are not only Czech but even from Ostrava, resp. the region around.
The best current Czech T&F athlete, Zuzana Hejnová, dominating women's 400m hurdles is from an other part of the country. As well as the Czech javelin throwers.
A part of the popularity of the Ostrava's Golden spike meet is also because of history. It's a meet with a long tradition.
And of course, Bolt sells tickets. I went there last time perhaps 5 years ago when I lived in Prague. I took a train from Prague to Ostrava and remember the train was gradually getting full of teenage girls with Jamaican flags on their cheeks.
