Go to a hobby store. Buy a half dozen different size model airplane propellers. Go to Home Depot, buy 2 3 foot lengths of wooden dowel. Cut the dowel into 8 or 10 inch lengths, and fasten to each different airplane propeller. Find some kind of socket that the dowel will fit into, semi tight, but still spinnable. Put each "helicopter" into the socket. Take a length of string-a foot or so long, and wind around the dowel. Pull hard, spinning the helicopter. Measure how high it flies, how long it flies, what distance it travels.
Come up with hypotheses about how the different size props will perform. Graphs, pictures, discussion.........
Will cost you 10 bucks. Simple is better. Let her do it. Let her figure out how to glue the dowels. Let her find the best spinning socket-ball point pen tube? pipe from hardware store, soda bottle, piece of lumber with hole drilled in it?
