This is a rock-solid source with Nike connections, Oregon connections, the whole nine. Also told me that Rupp WASN'T running the trials marathon back in 2012, which turned out to be true.
Apparently, Rupp is tentatively planning on a 10k/marathon double in Rio. This comes straight from AlSal.
A little birdie who knows thinga told me that Rupp is "definitely" running the OT marathon.

Old news. Try to keep up.

I have heard the same thing regarding the 10k/marathon double as well.

Yeah, old. Nikeman reported this in another thread.

The real question is will he also do USA indoors and try to make the World indoor team? -

Indoors is nothing, and no one cares about it. -
good stuff

Was the birdie a Bald-Faced Ploy perchance? Yes!

RUPP IS DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!

Who really cares? He's not going to win either. He'll get top five in the 10000m and he will be a joke in the marathon. Even a top ten finish would be a joke becuase time wise he'll be so far behind the leaders.

Rupp will medal in the olympic marathon, and has a good shot at winning. -
Eggxactly. Indoors can't be taken seriously when for World's, the best don't even show up. No Kiprop for the 1500m, so why should the best 10000m runners show up either?
Rio 2016 could be the best T&F viewing ever with Kiprop in the 1500m and Rupp contending in the marathon. Let's hope it's better than London, which had the boringest marathons ever.

I heard from, not one, but TWO, clever birds who spy on AlSal, that the plan is to turn Rupp into the 'merican Yuki after the Olympics. The plan is to grab as much money as possible, in as short a time as possible, then sail away, with the Mobot, to secret island they are buying with their loot. This Mysterious Island will be the secret incubator for growing Rupp's kids, and Farah's kids, into the next generation of super-can't-catch-me-runners.

Where's your evidence?

There are so many trolls on this site. Not saying you're one of them, but I usually don't trust posts like this until I see something more official.

The thing about the Olympic Marathon is that PR's don't mean so much. He would have a much better chance at a medal in the Olympic Marathon than top 3 at any of the other Majors.
I do think he could run 2:06 on a flat course by running 1:03/1:03, but London, for example, will go out in 1:01:45. So that's a different scenario. -
This could be trolling but,if true,it makes sense. Rupp always treated the 5000 as the extra event. It was a bonus and he thought why not run it if he can make the team. It was just an extra chance to race for a medal when in peak shape.
He may have just thought he will never get closer in the 5000 and he needs to focus on strength for the 10000 to stay with kamworor, Karoli and Farah - all guys who raced marathons and more half-ms than Galen.
If he makes the marathon team, Rupp can train for the 10000, build a huge base and still prioritize the 10000 and take a flyer on the marathon. Lots
Of people drop out anyway (in 2012 hall, linden, the entire Ethiopian men's team)

Exactly! The Rio marathon could easily be won in a time as slow as 2:12. No pacemakers, warm conditions. What's the course like? For the cycling both road and time trial courses are hilly, same with the triathlon bike course.
the marathon could be made for someone who can pick it up over the last 10k. And remember that quite a lot of the top Africans do not prioritise the Olympic marathon because there is no immediate financial reward (the winner can expect to earn huge amounts after the event)
Salazar to coach the winner in all the men's distance events? (5k, 10k & marathon) -
Only in the "pro" " sport" of American running would the fans have no idea who is competing in one of the most anticipated races of the year.
Phelps and coach talk to media all the time about what they're entering, what their planning is, and it's good for their profile - and the sport.
And Rupp is an unaccompanied scrub compared with Phelps. Keeping entries secret like a drama queen, always scratching events at the last moment? No wonder nobody cares about the sport (who isn't in it themselves). Think about that: the sport has literally no fans who aren't/weren't runners. Meanwhile, arenas are packed for tennis, gymnastics, even swimming.
Honestly, selection of the US women's gymnastics team is more clear to follow, and that involves the personalities of actual teenage girls, not two grown men who act like they are. -

He's going to get rid of all his sponsor contracts, his agent and coach, get a government job and start working full-time to support his widowed mother and younger brothers?
