Would the zoom elite 8's be a decent marathon racing shoe....train in the peg 31 and voomero 10's. Thinking of adding the elite's to the rotation.

Depends on you and your goals for racing. Will it hold up for the marathon distance? Absolutely. Will it be faster than the Pegs? Yes. Wore the 6's and liked them quite a bit but the upper on the 8's is fantastic.
That's what I do. Long and recovery runs in the Pegasus, tempo and long races in the Elites. They're not that much different though.
so can zoom elite 8 be my long distance training shoe?? (24 miles longest probably)
and by that I mean: should I get the Pegasus 32 or Elite 8 as my long distance trainer?I do most runs in streak LTs - up to 8 miles

elite's have a forefoot crash pad, pegasus has a heel crash pad. Otherwise I'm not sure if they are that different. Similar fly knit uppers, 0.4 oz weight difference (elite being lighter) and 2mm drop difference (elite's heel is 2mm lower).
Get the Elite if you're a forefoot striker and like a slightly lower heel2toe drop. Get the Pegasus if otherwise.
Hope this helps.
But generally screw nike.
I have these shoes - I like them for slow recovery runs when I'm pretty beat up but otherwise they feel a bit bulky compared to my other main trainer - a saucony kinvara. I think they'd be a bit bulky for a marathon race shoe unless you are heavy. Not a shoe guru, just my 2 cents.

Looking at online sales some of the Elite 8s have asymmetrical lacing and other don't. I know the 7s had asymmetrical lacing and early reviews of the 8s some mentioned that feature was changed. Runningwarehouse is a good example. If you look at the primarily orange color it has asymmetrical lacing. Look at the black with orange heel and it has symmetrical lacing. Anyone know the story on this?
Went to the Nike website and all the colors of the 8s have symmetrical lacing. Weird.
I thought the Zoom Elite would be good for a trainer up to about 20. You certainly could use them for a marathon, I'd prefer something with a little more cushion to them.
For the Elite vs Pegasus question, I tried both of them a few weeks ago and that outer rail on the Peg was really distracting but didn't bother me at all with the Elite. It is supposed to be the same for both shoes so there must be something else going on with them.
As someone mentioned, the upper is nice and I like it much more than the 7s. However, the lacing doesn't seem snug as in the 7s. I can't seem to get them laced in a way that really feels comfortable. I don't know if that is due to the symmetrical vs asymmetrical lacing mentioned above, but they seem a bit harder to lock down.
I haven't run in the Pegasus 32s yet, but I alternate the 31s in with the Zoom Elite 8s and the transition isn't too crazy. I think you could definitely race a marathon in the Elites fairly well.
Ok I'll make it very simple:
I am comfortable in doing runs up to 13 miles in streak lts in trails/soft surfaces.
Infact, that is my favorite all around shoe.
I don't think about my foot strike at all but I tend to find myself midfoot striking unless I am going absurdly slow (slower than 9:00 min miles) which I do not do often.
I now need a training shoe for longer (mostly road) runs, 10-24 miles in distance. A mile logging beast (well not really, just 30 on them and then 15 more on streak lts each week)
I had bad luck with the Vomero 10s. After 50 miles my soleus started flaring up. Back they went.
Should I get the elite 8s or the peg 32s?
