Hey guys, I'm here to ask some advice regarding improving my overall fitness. This summer, I've been running only around 2 times a week, but have been doing a workout program consisting of a pushup day, a pullup day, and a leg day involving pliometrics, sprints, or both. Really, the goal has been to improve my top end speed and gain some muscle while not completely ruining my aerobic system. These were my high school PR's (6'0 137lb)
200m -- 29
400 m-- 60
800 m-- 2:11
1600m-- 4:55
5k-- 17:04
I think I've gained around 5-7 pounds and have gotten noticeably stronger. Now when I do drills like A skips and B skips, it feels like my legs have so much more "pop". My endurance has worsened, but not nearly as much as I expected.
Will lifting offer a better improvement then bodyweight exercises, strictly in terms of strength improvements? Running for me is a fun hobby, but i enjoy feeling fit in various aspects of life. In the fall I think I'm going back to running club 4-5 times a week for my school down south, should I expect to change anything in my strength program?
