So boys and girls... according to an article in today's Wall Street Journal, the 2015 average sales price of a new full-size truck is $43K. Since I've never bought a truck myself, I was a little taken aback by this sticker shock.
Just for grins, I then decided to stack this up against household income. After all, just how much does a $43K truck represent compared to what the typical family brings home? As it turns out, somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-freaking percent. That's right, kids: according to Sentier Research (which takes the U.S. Census lagged data on household income and extrapolates for the most recent year or two), the U.S. nominal (and real) income for 2015 is roughly $54K, only about $11K more than one of these fancy new trucks.
No doubt we can get into debates about whether or not these trucks are really getting bought by the typical household family or ones with more disposable income, but on its face this metric is a little alarming. Bring that Dave Ramsey back on here and let's try to get our financial urges under a little more control, people.
That is all.
