Does that mean fully funded track teams for every university in the country? No more peddling athletic scholarship money in half rides, quarter rides, book scholarships?

This is a great idea, would open up so many more opportunities, and is nothing different from what has been done in many countries, including this one, before, with success. The focus would, however, go away from the country club atmosphere and the race to provide the most expensive mall-like student centers, and the like. Admin would have to be slashed back to 1970s levels. Track teams existed before and would again, but football teams would be too expensive for unprofitable programs.

You say that like it's a bad thing...
think about it though, there would be no more athletic aid, since its free. every team full funded just by the fact that they get in school. WEll room and board money maybe, but that's if you don't commute.
Its not free, someone has to pay for it. it's welfare , yet again. The country has a mindset of welfare states now days.
Sanders is not discussing free college for everyone. He's pitched federal grants amounting to $18 billion a year which would cover approximately half tuition (2 out of the 4 years) for students to attend public universities only. I don't pretend we'e swimming in a budget surplus, but college costs -- even public school costs -- are so far beyond the ability of the vast majority of Americans, something has to be done in order for our workforce to remain competitive.

Today's tuition and fees of the average student (that does not participate in sports) is used to fund track teams.
Isn't that socialist?
Or how about revenue from football and basketball being used to fund track teams.
Isn't that socialist?
If you don't want a socialist college track team then have all of the parents of the track team pay tuition plus chip in for travel, uniform and track meet registration.

One of the things about socialists is they are guilty and reactionary. I don't see any criticism of socialism in the op. But you assumed it, then went on a speech about it. Socialists are nothing but twerps with a complex. For all you know they want this plan.
I however don't, and by reading what you said, I don't think you have any concept of the difference between your claims are about how an athletic dept and school runs athletics, and what a national education entitlement would entail.
I'd also assume you're lazy and probably immature , as most socialists are.
Marx was anti-education.
You work with your hands.
NO school for you!
If Bernie Sanders was any more of a dick, he'd be stuck up Barney Franks a$$

so what? he's right
This is why anyone who is paying their student loans instead of buying a house is making a huge mistake. Ignore the loans and get some equity because the loans will be either wiped away or reduced to virtually nothing. You can say that's a socialist mindset but its really just looking ahead and realizing how bad the student loan situation is as a whole. Wouldn't you hate to finish paying off 50k in students loans and the next day they announce all student loans are wiped away???
Education is not a right at any level, nor is college even a good opportunity for most people. The only thing this country needs to do to in terms of fixing its policy on higher education is to stop encouraging so many people to attend by ending government-guaranteed student loans. Not only would our young people benefit from avoiding the huge opportunity cost and crippling debt load, but they'd avoid absorbing the intellectual poison emitted by the humanities departments, and so they'd be a lot less miseducated as well.

YOU signed those loan papers on the dotted line and it's nobody's problem but yours. You are not entitled to have the consequences forgiven at the expense of rich people.

Actually, an adaquate compulsory education is required by all Americans. It's the law.

The most uneducated members of society are those who make no distinction between right and law.
