If Mo Farah gets the HM world record, it will come a pretty short amount of time after another world record in the 2M. Are there any other examples of world records in distances that are pretty far apart that came close together?

lassi veron Set the 2 mile world record like 4 weeks before his 10k world record.
So in Viren's case: 4.1 Miles in Distance....4.1 weeks in time
That seems to be a ratio of a mile per week.
Similarly...if some had the 5k/10k record...it would have to be with 3 weeks.
or 10k/Marathon within 20 weeks...

Do we really expect Mo to suddenly smash his half PR by over a minute and a half? To break Tadese's WR, he'd have to run a pace 9 seconds slower than his 10,000m PR on the track, for over twice the distance on the roads.
really really really? wrote:

maths isn't your strong point and if it is, i cant imagine what your weak points are.

Please accept my sincere apologies. I was slightly off with my math. Mo's PR for 10,000m is 26:46.58 or 4:18.55/mile pace. To break Tadese's half WR (58:23), he'd have to average 4:27.21/mile pace. I accidentally stated this was 9 seconds slower when it's only 8.66 seconds per mile slower. My sincere apologies for this egregious error.
In my defense, I was correct that Mo's half PR was 1:00:00 while Tadese's WR is 58:23, which is a difference of 97 seconds or "over a minute and a half." And I was also correct that a half marathon is over twice the distance of a 10,000m race. Nevertheless, I regret that I was 0.34 seconds off on the other mathematical fact, and I will now follow a self-imposed ban on stating mathematical facts under this user name. Again, please accept my sincere apologies.
