Many of the best teachers depicted in movies and tv shows are people who are actually very intelligent, thoughtful, and educated, but also charismatic and compassionate. I sometimes wonder if these sorts of people really would be great teachers in the real world or if they would be stifled by administration, rigid policies, and apathetic kids and parents.
Is someone who really is intelligent and educated, charismatic and compassionate, better off teaching, say, AP Biology, or would they be better off working in academia? What do you think?
