Typically when I do intervals I do them in flats until 400m intervals, anything 400 or under I do in spikes. Just curious when is the best time to spike up?

Train in spikes, race in trainers
I wouldn't wear spikes for workouts. Save them for the big meets when you want that edge. I don't see what you gain from workout in spikes. You may increase injury risk. Not worth it.
Thanks a lot thats what Ive been doing I hope flats arent too bad to run in
I will do strides in them if I finish my run at the track or the last couple repeats of 1000 meters or less. It is definitely good to wear them in training once in a while, so you get used to running in them and your calves don't get sore after races.
