I have a friend who loves running and wants to read some running books. He is 21 years old, a non-native English speaker (but is close to fluent in English), and has some minor learning disabilities. Once a Runner was too hard for him to get through. Does anyone have a recommendation for a running novel that is an easier read (i.e., lower reading level than OAR)? Would really appreciate some ideas. Thanks!
Once A Runner was impossible for anyone to get through.
Can't remember the title or author, but there was a novel set in the Midwest (MN?) written by a HS X-C coach/HS English teacher about a wrestler who converts to X-C and is cold-shouldered by the team (esp. the #1 runner named Kenny). A damn good read, and not artsy/fartsy literature.
Book may have been published in the 1970's.
Anyone??????????
