My nephew may have some sprinting talent, having run a 4.5 40 at the age of 14. (I was not there, and like others I doubt that he actually ran this fast. He is white and set the record for his school, which lends some credence to his having some speed. That part of the state is pretty mixed in demographics.)
Any recommendations on how he should train if he wants to maximize his speed, how to work this training around other sports, etc? I've told him and his sister that what is probably most important at his age is to try to improve his base strength, primarily through deadlifts, cleans, squats, and other olympic lifts. Skips, plyometrics, and other auxilliary training can be worked in over time. I also told him that he should try to have fun with it.
I appreciate any comments.
