I don't know if Jack Daniels is still around these boards, but I'd love to get input or suggestions from anyone that is is familiar with & supports the training methods of the Daniels Formula.
I am setting up a 16-week half marathon training plan, based on the half marathon plan & guidelines given in the 3rd edition of Daniels' Running Formula.
My question is: Should I set it up with:
a) 4 weeks of Phase II, 4 weeks of Phase III, and 4 weeks of Phase IV;
or:
b) 3 weeks of Phase II, 6 weeks of Phase III, and 3 weeks of Phase IV?
The guidelines given in figure 6.2 (p. 110) in the book suggest that for 16 weeks available I should choose "b" above, with 6 weeks given to Phase III.
However, in the half-marathon training chapter, it mentions for both Phase II & Phase IV (p. 205 & p. 210) "Depending on how many total weeks you have for race preparation, this phase ...could be shortened or lengthened, but try to have at least 4 weeks in phase IV" (similar said for phase II & III)."
So, which would you suggest - 4 weeks each for Phases II, III, & IV to get "at least 4 weeks", or a heavier Phase III as indicated in the generic figure on p. 110?
I don't have a glaring weak area (between R-pace, I-pace, or T-pace), if that makes any difference.
Suggestions?
