Can't travel TOO far outside of the city. What's there to check out in Denver before I go get drunk tonight (and where should I do that)?

Can't you just wound or maim for a day? Killing is a bit excessive.

Since Tebow is gone now, I would start with John Elway.
This is really my own fault for not being very deliberate in my wording on LRC. I should've known better.
If you got a car-drive an hour to the top of Loveland Pass (I-70 to US 6 exit-about 50 miles from downtown) Park and walk around. Run hill repeats at 12,000 feet. Could do something similar at Mt. Evans, (which has a road all the way up to the 14K summit) but I like Loveland Pass better-there's room to walk around for a short hike.
No car-take a tour of the mint. Take a tour of Coors Brewery in Golden (West Light Rail Line, then take Golden Connector to brewery) Lower Downtown, near the baseball stadium is chock full of bars/restaurants and trendy folks. Can also take light rail (C/D line) to 10th and Osage stop and eat at the Buckhorn Exchange. A bit spendy, but a taste of the old west, with hundreds of game heads on the walls. Not much else going on in the Buckhorn Neighborhood-and a little sketchy at midnight, so be careful-but you should be fine if you just wander across the street to the Light Rail stop.
Thanks! I think I'm staying in the Capital Hill district
You can get up to the mountains and back in a day if you have a car. There are some good hikes up in Golden Gate Canyon State Park that won't wear you out and will give you a good feel for the Rockies. It is at 8000 ft and will make you huff and puff a bit, but not bad.
If it is an absolutely clear day, you can drive all the way to the top of Mt. Evans and see everything.
Denver is a decent city, but nothing around downtown compares to the mountains.

I'll actually be heading down to climb a couple of collegiate peaks after my brief stay in Denver. So I think I'll get my hiking in at that point, but I appreciate the feedback!
A couple people have said tour the mint so I will look into that for sure.
The Colorado Rockies play the Washington Nationals tonight at Coors Field. Awesome park to watch a game in. Get cheap tickets, load up on food and beer and then gradually move up to better seats as the game unfolds.
