Interesting idea, that Kiplagat is "better" than Kiprop.
You can make the argument over time and win/loss record.
But let's face it, Asbel is the man with 3 golds.

You mean, like the Mexican-born naturalized American? ;)

Leo's meow ! wrote:Im confused the excited commentary here , both Leo and Centro were never in the hunt , Leo interviews excited Centro down with the reality of not being close to the leaders. Good american times by both but by years end their times won't make the world top 20. The bar has been lifted with the sub 3:30 standard.
As of now, Manzano and Centro are numbers 10 and 11 on the world lead list. They are not going to get passed by another ten guys.
Also, and more to the point, there were a lot of very fast 1500m times in 2012 and 2013 before the Olympics and the WCs. And then something changed. People either didn't show up or when they did show up, they clearly weren't in the same form.
It wasn't just that the Oly/WC 1500m races were tactical, the runners were not the same. So we know the bar can go up and go down. And we know Manzano and Centro have medaled before and have just run their best times. We'll see what happens in 2015.
Im not so sure. We seem to a have a group of africans that are eager to run fast 1500's , chasing the world record. I think we may see it go this year. Commonwealth Games will have athletes in peak form. We then roll into the second half of the European track season , lots of racing left.

Leo was born in Mexico

Hate to see that blatant age cheat in 3rd. Is that some new bullshit "junior record"?
Idiot.
this is the kind of race where vertolin's dreams come true.
coulda woulda shoulda, coulda been a condendah, thoughts turn into reality.
it takes the perfect weather and have many guys on top of their game, but when it happens you take a ton on your PR.
track guy's can't believe the times when they get in the ultimate race also. willis it appears was in shock.
actually, thought the pacing was pretty excellent (don't agree at all with commentators) ideal pace will bring the group about 0.5 seconds or so lower.
i could never figure kiplagat out.
until today.
he's been so erratic in big races, with no explanation.
i always figured he would good for 327 or better based on the fact the he ran 332 at big altitude off an erratic pace a few years ago.
and centro, he bombs every big non championship race, but comes up big in champs. he should be happy with 331. he knows he can go 329 now or better, if you whine about that, you'll be whining for ever.
leo bombs, then kicks butt, then bombs, erratic.
then you look at his american champs record, which is consistent second to none.
kiprop is the most consistent but lays eggs too.
it looks to me that he's 326 high on his best day, where el-g was good for 324, so there is still a spread between the two.
Ingebrigtsen had a PB a few years back of 335 but since he was running with the big boys and time and again taking scalps off 332 guys, you knew it was only going to take a hoover race to get the good time. 331 today, is really the same quality as a 335 without good conditions. a herb elliot for example would have run 332 in that race, "easy" and probably 331, with the same "improvement" as our norwegian friend. no probem in giving rupp a 330 in this race also.
no none of this talk is meant to diminish the results.
each guy earned their time and their world rank in the all time lists. basically guys dream of running a certain time, their coaches know it can be done, but doing it is where the satisfaction and rewards come.
the point is that great efforts from the past without the great time are not appreciated correctly.
good job lads.
Nice analysis.
Centro is a racer , kicker , he just doesn't have the top end speed when they go from the gun for time as we saw on Friday. His kick plays well for championships and tactical races. Leo falls in the same category.
We have fast tracks around the world that will give fast times , its plain and simple. Hopefully your good enough to get a lane in a fast race on the fast track and get pulled along like we just experienced.
Never try and figure out the africans , you never know what they may do no matter the plan.

So it was the perfect race for everyone to PR, and lots of people did, and then you conclude: Centro can go much, much faster, and possibly go 3:28.x ??
You're worse than ventolin. That stars only align perfectly once awhile. THey did for this race for many of the runners. They may never again. But yet, again, you conclude: Centro might run 2.x seconds faster?

Is Manzano the greatest American 1500/miler of all time? He beats Webb on the medals and is close on the time.
Only a second behind Mo Farah!
