Love to see someone do it -- 16 years is WAY too long for a record to stand -- and wouldn't mind if Kiprop is the guy, but I doubt anyone is even under 3:27. El G was really focused on the record and I don't get that sense about Kiprop.
And, honestly, 3:26 is a DAMN good record.
No way
I envision 2 scenarios:
1) Soul Man wins in 3:31 in a sit and kick with lots of traffic kind of race; Asbel blows up and runs 3:32.
2) Asbel avoids early traffic and gets behind the rabbits, runs 3:25.87, FTWR and W.
I told the witch doctor they'd race in Monaco

oo ee, oo aa aa ting tang walla walla bing bang.

heck, Merga hasn't run faster than 13:20 or so!!!
Have they forgotten to test the marathoners the last few years?

The slow times are because they are racing. That is exciting.
Records are great but the race is what it's all about.
With the Diamond League points it's a real season and this is what track needs.
I wish their races throughout the season could be tied into qualifying for global championships.
I've enjoyed this year more than most- I watch the meets on Universal Sports and each race has meaning, they're not just something approaching the Olympics/Worlds.

They can't race at a faster pace? The Paris 5000 in 2012 was a very competitive race, and Mo Farah had a good race with Ndiku last year in the Monaco 1500. Going at a faster pace doesn't mean they can't race.
