Everyone thought this was going to be Obiri/Aregawi. Obiri ran well, but it was all about Jenny pulling the field out. Aregawi seems to be hurt.
Hassan came out of nowhere, she's another young Ethiopian miler (like Aregawi) who took the Euro money and became a Dutch citizen.
This event is getting real interesting. We haven't even seen Dibaba run 1500 outdoor yet.
Jenny S. is my favorite athlete. I love to watch her run!
Oh, she has a kick all right. But does she finish second if they hit the bell in say, 3 flat instead of 2:55? I don't think so.
By going from 800 she ELIMINATES a lot of the kickers. Only 1 stayed with her and passed her on the last lap. If she doesn't go from 800, a lot more would have been with her and passed her on the last lap.
Meant sub-13:10 performances
Those are sub 13:10 times. Mead and True have only run 13:02
Bro, per what you posted the sub 13 list is as follows:
Lagat: 6
Solinsky: 3
Kennedy: 2
Ritz: 1
Teg: 1
Rupp: 1
All I can say that was one helluva 1500. A real surprise, did not see that coming. Simpson has been quietly threatening for awhile.
And this Hassan, who the hell is she? Only 21. How did Holland get her? Another arranged marriage? lol
So Rupp is only 5th best 5k runner USA has ever had. Kennedy still has two times better than Rupp's PR. Its hard to believe Rupp still only has one sub-13. Guy needs to grow a pair and race like a man.

Didn't realize the pacemakers did their job. Rupp should have taken advantage and hung off their shoulder. He's one of my favorite runners, but that's bush that he didn't. How a 26:4s guy isn't confident enough to get after it is beyond me. That's what differentiates a boss like geb, bekele, Tergat, hicham, or komen from someone like rupp. Sounds like he lacked balls today. That's a shame and a waste of his talent and fitness level.

during the break of NL - CRC:
Sifan arrived as a refugee in NL at the age of about 15.
After 5 years she got her passport, no shortcuts were made.
She speaks dutch reasonably well.
I had the privilege of training a few times with her in Eindhoven, at that time she didnt run really well (spring 2011) but this turned out to be due to depleted iron levels and when this was found out, she made massive improvements.
We are all really proud of her.

I rather agree. Rupp is running pretty well at 5k right now, clearly on a better level than ever before...but he still doesn't seem to be running the race that gives him the best chance to win.
I believe he is one of the strongest guys in the field from a time standpoint, and I can't imagine a fast pace with a long windup from 800-1000 out wouldn't give him the best chance to win.
He did get a little boxed on the last lap and lost some momentum...but I still don't see Rupp beating guys like Soi or Alamirew or Ndiku over the last 2 or 3 hundred meters off cruising to the bell.

Simpson and Coburn HAVE TO run that way to have a chance of winning. They don't have the kicks to wait till the last lap. It's necessity, not choice. If they had lethal kicks they wouldn't be running that way.
The depth in men's racing is much greater than the women's. Only someone clearly physically superior to everyone in the world can just run away from a pack -- and there isn't anybody like that now, including Mo Farah. Rupp's not going to do that because he's not clearly better than everybody in the world. The other guys are not going to go with the pacers because why should they? They get paid by PLACE, not TIME. Paris in 2012 was an Olympic year and guys were motivated to run fast to impress their Olympic selection committees.
Yeah and I'm pretty sure the person who runs the fastest TIME ends up PLACING the highest.
That's good. She's in the big time now, great race. Hope she can keep it up.

I agree
Men's 800m is up.
Rupp can drive from 800 out in what 1:56, maybe faster and rock the last 400 in what, 52-mid, so he's got wheels. He could put himself in winner's and record territory by applying his cardio/strength/endurance and either of those two tools will kill the field at the end except for the strongest Africans. Why he doesn't just use what he's got is beyond me. Dunno, maybe we can switch brains for a brain and I'll race in his body and show him how it's done.

It's hard not to like Jenny, works so hard, so dedicated, a real overachiever. a real class act too. One of the nicest girls on the circuit.
I think that's correct. A pb and a real milestone for Shannon, but amazing front running from Jenny. In truth she doesn't have the raw speed to compete at the end unless she stretches the field out during the middle of the race. The first time we saw her do this was at the Drake Relays early last year - she just thrashed the mostly American field and nobody American has competed well with her since.
