I have been working up my mileage with a few doubles a week. Usually 4 in the am 5 pm. Now that I have built my mileage I am thinking about only doing one longer run a day. Do you think this is more beneficial thab doubles?

What distances do you race?
How old are you?
How long have you been running?
How long have you been working your mileage up?
What does your average week look like?
It is doubtful that you will see any racing benefits from doing the same mileage in 7 rather than 10 runs. For one thing your average pace will most likely slow down if you change to 7 runs. Now if you know in the winter you are only going to do 7 runs, that is a different story.
doubles are always beneficial but you could work on increasing the length of one of your runs rather than running two equal runs. 3/8, 4/9, etc.
