Why did RUPP run the 10,000 and not the 5,000 at USATF? Avoiding COMPETITION?

To lose to Lagat at a U.S. 5k is hard to take, while losing to top Ethiopian and Kenyan competition in a fast Euro race is assumed and he'd still get credit for beating some of them.

Did Chris Derrick duck the tougher 5000 in favor of the 10000? No, he ran his best event.Did Ben True duck competition? No he skipped the meet to run against a better field that is in Paris. Why do people direct this stuff at Rupp?

Probably because he doesn't contribute to the races he's in, and never runs hard for time, unless he's following somebody else.

I hesitate to say he's a wimp but he sure runs like one.

I'm not saying that Rupp made the wrong move or that he was "ducking" Lagat, but I was mightily disappointed that he didn't challenge his greatest domestic competition, Lagat, for the national 5,000M title. That's all I'm saying.

this question reflects the dumb in american distance running thinking. this isn't high school where you need to double just to prove how tough you are.

elite runners don't plan their careers to please people who are stuck in a high school mentality.

here's a brilliant idea that i came up with all my own: maybe he is doing what is best for him and i bet he talks with his coach about it too. wow, that was almost brain rocket science surgery.
