Obviously the 5,000 was so much stronger.
So of course Rupp jogs the 10,000.

Yes. There you got the answer you wanted. Happy?

Right on, TAA.
I would like to know why Bernie Kipkenyan didn't run the 100 meter dash? Now that's where the real competition is.
I think Rupp was waiting for a few other 10K competitors to run the 5K. Didn't happen did it dumb sh!&? Why aren't you asking why the other 10K competitors didn't run the 5K?

I will give you $100 if you say that to Lagat's face, film it and post the link here. And you have to wait for the reply. And! you have to say it in front of his family.
You are an idiot, aren't you?
He won the 10,000. At that point he was already a national champion. A second title at this meet wouldn't mean much as there are no olympics or world championships this summer. I thought this was obvious.
Maybe it's part of his training plan for the season.
Maybe he gets a bonus each time he wins a national title.
Maybe he gets a bonus each time he ends the year with a particular ranking (from T&FN, say) in a given event.
Maybe he wants to support the sport in the US by competing in a national championship, even though there's really no other American at his level.
Maybe he had nothing else to do then.
Maybe he likes the event better.

Your logic makes me cry for the future of the US. Oregon grad?
He substituted the American 5K for a DL 5K that is probably much tougher. Yep, you got him, he's ducking competition.

Doing a 5k at USAs doesn't prevent you from doing one later in a DL race
It does when running the 10 and the 5 back-to-back is only a week out from the DL.

The only reason he ran the 10k in the first place was to keep his 10k streak alive and break Frank Shorters record of 5 straight 10k wins
Plus, he has a blazing fast DL Paris 5k coming up this week so he was preparing for that
He pretty much just used the 10k as a tempo run for this Saturday

^^^^^^^ I tend to agree with this. Rupp has Always been a 10k runner. He has no obligation to allow nobodys who troll around on a message board determine what is acceptable competion for him. His primary event is the 10k not the 5k.

No it doesn't. That 10k was a tempo effort. If that's the case, then he should just do no running at all.

I agree the 10K was a tempo for him, however, if he also ran the 5,000 it would NOT have been a tempo - it would have been a much tougher race. So a tempo followed immediately by a hard 5,000 would not set him up well for a fast (maybe AR attempt) within 7 days.
I knew hew would run just one race.
I thought he'd choose the 5 since he just had a hard 10.
But he chose to keep his streak alive.
Considering the people that skipped the meet, you just can't down Rupp for this choice.
everyone will forget about this and not care come next week when he runs sub 13 in the DL 5k. And, in the end, he will still be a U.S. national champion in the 10k
If he'd run it, the only difference would have been his name slotted between Lagat and Bumbalough.
Letsrunner: Rupp must be on the juice, cuz he does lots of races and workouts, and he's really fast!
*Rupp purposefully chooses to skip a race to be better recovered for a race he's likely trying to peak for*
Letsrunner: Hey, quit ducking the competition!

You moron.
Because the other runners in the 10,000 didn't massively outclass the field, did they? So they weren't DUCKING by being there and not the 5,000 were they?
