Come to California and you'll be one of 20 masters running that sort of time.
Rich Byrne should be 40 soon and he ran a 23:24 8K at age 38 and 23:55 at 39...

Is rich byrne running the chicago marathon this year?
Twenty masters in California at 31:00? Vigueras, D. Nelson, Magill, Gonzales . . . that's four, and then it gets pretty thin, at least in terms of guys running on the road. I guess you might count David Olds, maybe the late great Jeff Nelson if he ever comes back, but no way is it close to twenty.
40 is the new 30. As in---not too old to rip things up on the roads.
Give up, you'll all get hurt and suffer depression. Go into biking, make more dough. Leave the running to the younger guys. Simonaitis will still be kicking all your asses, anyway.
Paul Aufdemberge out of Redford Michigan, and he is running sub 30 for 10k's on the roads
Scott Walschlager (#1 marathonter in SD in his own mind) turns 40 in early 05. I hear he is in the market for some performance enhancing drugs; something other than a case of Twix bars.

Um, Jeff Nelson might of been great, but he is not dead. And if he was dead, how exactly would he come back? And if he came back from the dead, how on earth could a zombie run a 31:00 10k? From what I know about zombies they are usually pretty slow. Muscles tend to atrophy when you die.
I was out in california a kicked all those guys asses.
Don't worry about me if I am not hurt I will be running low 30min 10k by then. (pr 28:40 2hrs 10)
hump
bewa,
Throw your name out there, you baldheaded, sightless geezer. You couldn't outrun a pile of manure.
Doubtful, just relax, I am not going to give my name. The prs are correct. I learnt about a few runners I did not know about. By the way I was also an olympian so suck on that. Regards

When, exactly, did you do all this ass-kicking? I generally recall getting a good ass-kicking from those in or near my peer group, but this one must have escaped me.
As for the "if I am not hurt" part ... afraid you'll have to get used to training and competing "hurt" if you want to be successful at masters. It's just one perpetual tug-of-war between goals and injuries. Jeez, we could all still run sub-30 if we just weren't hurt most of the time.
That said, it's always great to have another competitor in the masters ranks! If you're running low 30's by then, more power to you! If not, the humbling experience of fruitlessly struggling against your body's limitations will be well understood by the rest of us who've already come to terms with it.
Good luck!
Socalpete: yea I know about the injury thing. I have fought it since 1998 when it pretty much cut my competitive running off. I quit for a year completely, never ran a step.
I can only run about 70 miles per week or I will break down.
Good luck
Ya, I've been in 31:00 SHAPE too for the past 2 years.....still haven't gone under 32:00.....something about the lost excitement and spring in my set for the first 5k!!!
The only name you need to know is Simonaitis. Get to know the back of his shoes, 'cause that's all you'll see. Anyway, take care of yourself and don't worry about who else is turning 40. You are scared already.
I will be ready for him. But he will be on the decline by the time I HIT 40.
You are kidding yourself. Dennis is one of the most prepared runners in the world. He does it all. Try to beat everybody else and get yourself some EPO.
1:49.84 - 800m Freshmen National Record - Cooper Lutkenhaus (check this kick out!!)
Jakob on Oly 1500- “Walk in the park if I don’t get injured or sick”
Emma Coburn to miss Olympic Trials after breaking ankle in Suzhou
VALBY has graduated (w/ honors) from Florida, will she go to grad school??
