I'm working for a surveyor. The work is great, but over time my heels and sometimes my hips start to feel a little worn down. Is this bad for post-run recovery and/or is it bad to run after this?

I would say far, far better than sitting around.
I think ideally would be lying on your back with the legs raised. Mind you, if you have a family, it's probably a bit of an unfair priority to lie on your back all evening shouting demands from the couch.
