+ 1 on this comment. This was a cheap, lame, distasteful publicity stunt, primarily designed to stroke his own ego. I hope that he is treated like a pariah by his local running community, and that race coordinators think twice before comping his entry into their races.
Get a tempo run in on your own. Don't use your BQ and sub-elite status to get some tv time and interfere with the legitimate contenders. They've earned the chance to rep their brands in front of the cameras at the front of the race, and you really haven't. He could have easily gotten this "workout" in at the back of the lead pack, and was obviously shooting for some personal attention.
