What pace and how much rest for someone wishing to crack 5 in the 1600m?
6 x 800 in 2:40, 400m jog rest

depends what you're trying to accomplish with the workout ... there are many ingredients in being a successful miler.
4x800 with 1:30 rest (really slow 200m jog perhaps) at 2:40
If you can do that I would say breaking 5 shoud be easy. Although imo 400m workouts are better later in the season
