This is american record at that age according to USATF
800m 1:56.36 Cody Harper Albuquerque, NM Sacramento, CA 07/28/01
Here's his profile from college

1:51.03 as a freshman/frosh 15 yrs 4mo - Michael Granville
1:56 as 8th grader
I'm guessin some kenyan guys have / could have bettered that
What is the paramaters for this they have to be 14 on the day or not turning 14-15 that year?
Joaquim Cruz ran 1:51 at 15 and then 1:44 at 18. It would be interesting to see if someone knew what he would have ran at 14 maybe faster than 1:56?

Depends on development. If you mature a bit earlier you may have the strength to run sub 2 with the right amount of training but that does not guarantee you will be a great 800m later on as your body will change through your teens. You will only start to understand your ability and potential around age 17
according to tilastopaja 800 world champion ran
1:50.29 for 800 at age 14
1:46.34 at age 15
I reckon his age is understated by 2 years. There are several reliable age times for 15 years old of around the 1:50 mark but assume most were closer to 16 when they did those times. Top times for a 14 year old early mature I don't think you will anything much faster than 1:55 or so. Sub 2 at 14 would indicate high talent level but no guarantee that you will continue to improve to be world class at age 17 and older
I ran track D1. I ran 2:10 in 7th grade, 2:02 8th grade (14 years old). and then 1:51 10th grade.
Side note: Early times at a young age isn't a sure indicator as a whole though. Training like a college athlete in high school or like a high school athlete in junior high needs to be taken in account when setting long term goals.
Even the kids that made world juniors and Pan-Ams. the respective teenage American champions, around half don't even become consistent NCAA finalist. Continual progression is a blessing.

I guess they have to be 14 years old - like the thread says. 14 years and 364 days qualifies.

Correct. Times at 14 are usually a function of when the kid went through puberty and how hard they've trained.
Look at it for a normal maturer and you get a better idea.
UK all time list under-15 800m - very few go on to reach international level

It's even worse in the 400. 400 is a power event, perfect for the early maturers.
The later or average maturers normally go on to do better in the long run.
If you look at the 1500, Coe and Ovett aren't in the top 40 times over this distance for U20.

i meant to write muhammad aman who last year as a 19 year old junior ran 1:42.37 to better the 1:42.53 as am 18 year old.
if he gets any better he will be a major threat to rudisha.
The world record for 14 yr old 800m is:
1:53.03 by Kevin Sullivan CAN 20 Mar 74 Toronto ON 16 Jul 88
By the way, the 14yr old record for 1500m is:
3:54.1 Kevin Sullivan CAN 20 Mar 74 Tillsonburg ON 24 Jul 88
He also ran 3:39.11 as a high school athlete. He is maybe the third fastest high school runner in North America behind Webb and Ryun.

and i forgot to say nijel amos who is the world junior record holder at 1:41.73 who ran that at age 18.

Another athlete with a questionable age. Nigel Amos is about four years older than submitted. Reliable results would include Kevin Sullivan and Michael Rimmer who went on to be successful later in their careers.
