So I am registered for Boston and was in pretty decent shape for me (knocking out 15-17 mi long runs at 6:35-6:45 pace) until about 5 weeks ago when I developed achilles tendinitis. Tried to run through it for a couple of weeks, but it got bad enough that I totally stopped running 3 weeks ago to try and rehab it. I tested it out for the first time this week, and so far so good. Assuming it holds, should I still attempt the marathon? If so, what should my next 4 weeks look like?
Some background: I've run 1 previous marathon (2:54 in fall 2012) on a low-mileage/high quality training plan (i.e., 3 runs/wk -- track workout, tempo, and long run, occasionally supplemented with some cross training -- cycling or xc skiing). I was doing the same plan for this build, but at a faster pace (I was hoping to run 2:45ish). My HM pr is 1:18 (a few years old -- I've run 1:20 more recently, both with minimal training). I did mostly high-intensity interval training on the bike during the past 3 weeks, with a couple of longer rides and skis mixed in.
What do you all think? I guess the big issue is that I don't really want to "just finish", and only really want to run if I've got a realistic shot at sub-3:00. Anyone think I can do this? What should I do to get there, assuming 3 runs/week plus 1 or 2 days of cross training?
