I just watched the replay several times in slowmo and real time. It is obvious that Hassay gets clipped from behind, however there is movement by both runners. Hassey was trying to tuck back in and move to the inside and Gabe is trying to get around them and moves to her outside. Hassey is cutting Gabe off as much as Gabe is clipping Hassey from behind. It was a good no call from the official. If what Gabe did was a DQ then what Hassey did was also a DQ. Alberto should not be able to havbe it both ways.
As far as all the posts on Gabe being dirty, this was not a dirty move. This was the move she was DQ's on so anything else that may have happened does not matter.
The real bad guys here are the USATF not following their own rules. The first decision on the track was a no call. the 2nd decision after the appeal was a no call, the 2rd appeal after reviewing video evidence was a no call. the 3rd (non-legal) appeal during which salazar and some nike officials got to speak directly (not-legal)with the committee was that the contact by Gabe was illegal.
It was ruled 3 times by the officials, once in real time, once after the appeal, and once with video evidence that that Gabe was the national champion. An illegal 4th appeal is granted in which Nike (who supplies upwards of 1/2 of the USATF funding) gets to speak with the USATF officials whith out anyone from the other side present. Remember the AAU anyone?
For anyone who would like to have the USATF contact info...
