John Cook is/was famous for doing a lot of technical work with his athletes. This includes drills, general strength work, hurdle mobility, weights, etc. At its peak, his group was quite successful and was garnering a lot of attention a few years ago. His athletes ran well and avoided injury.
From what I've read, his group would do anywhere from 15-20 training sessions per week. Only some of these were running, but virtually all of them involved some sort of technical work. Do keep in mind that they DID still run a good bit—If I recall correctly, Shalane Flanagan (who, as you recall, won her Olympic medal while being coached by Cook) was doing over 70 miles a week pretty regularly.
Unfortunately, Cook hasn't really written any books or anything, so I've had to piece together what I know from interviews (LetsRun.com did one a while back:

), videos, and lectures.
