I've been wondering if it does because a lot of the quicker guys I know can jump pretty high. Well, distance aside. If I were to increase my vertical by, say, 6-9 inches, do you think I would notice a difference in my time? Have you ever done this?

Ya, jumping ability matters a lot as it helps a persons to maintain his/her health and help to increase height of a persons. I use to do regular jumping in my gym which helped me to gain a good height.
Whats your vertical? If its below 20 thats pretty sad. For mid-d you should be in the 24-28 range for males, and 20-24 range for females. Sprinters and Horizontal Jumpers are 30+ with a wide variation, pure distance are 18-22. Anything under 18" is severely underpowered.
most deff. start plyos bro
Jumping is all about explosive power, and explosive power plays a huge role in both speed and acceleration. Both speed and acceleration are important in mid distance races, so of course jumping ability matters.
