I did a long run yesterday and today (approximately 20 hrs after the long run) I did a speed workout, and my legs kept feeling like lead/numb throughout the exercises.
Is it normal to feel somewhat sluggish after the long run or no?

Better to do the faster stuff the day before a longer run.
Check if you could optimize nutrition and sleep. Still, won't totally eliminate what you describe.
Why the F would you do a speed work the day after a long run?

Good question... I thought I would have made enough recovery from the day before so it wouldnt impact the speedworkout the following day. Guess I was overestimating my body's capabilities :/
Low glycogen levels, of course.
You;re either a crossfitter, a hobbyjogger, or you got into running because you signed up for a bootcamp at 24 hr fitness.
Speedwork the day after a long run?
Was your long run 4 miles @ 9:45 pace?

Not sure if trolling or serious.

No It was actually 9 miles at 7:45 pace... not sure where you people come up with these retarded assumptions. Wanted to see if a speed workout was feasible after a long run, and I discovered that it wasn't the case.
If back to back days of 9 miles at 7:45 pace left you with dead legs, work on building an aerobic base before you start messing with speedwork. There are high school cross country teams that consider those easy days and regularly do races, speedwork and hills after two days of easy mileage runs.
I was thinking you were doing like 18 and 15 back to back and then was going to say, no wonder your legs were dead.
It is fascinating to me that people take the time to make legitimate topics with the least amount of information possible. Are LRC'ers supposed to be mind readers?
Honestly, who hears 'long run' and thinks 9mi!?
