Lydiard used to say that anearobic work would interfere with aerobic development and that you typically peak off of 4-6 weeks of anearobic work.
My question is at what point does anearobic work mess with aerobic performance? Lets say I'm capable of about a 4:30 mile or so. In an attempt to retain some speed endurance i'd like to do something like 10x400 in anywhere from 72-68 sec. with about 2-3 min jogging recovery-to help flush out the lactate. This workout does produce some lactate but it isn't too intense as opposed to something faster with shorter recovery.
So is lydiard just referring to the really intense anearobic work or all anearobic work in general? I mean would doing a workout similar to the one i said earlier really cause me to 'peak' a little over a month later?
I'm just confused because you always hear about elites such as Salazar's group who do speed workouts year round, and i'm not just talking about hill sprints or strides.
Thanks in advance
